LLN Reports on Giving Back to the Community by Bruce Glickson. Bruce has enjoyed the restaurant business his entire life. He opened The Hot Dog Place, Inc.in 1977 with only 7 seats. Within 2 years he expanded to 42 seats. In 1985 he was awarded “Best Hot Dog in Chicago”. One of his most interesting events was having a buffet on the top floor of a building overlooking Soldier Field.
Bruce has been involved with the area Chambers of Commerce because he felt strongly about giving back to the communities where he worked and lived. He is a supporter of Camp Care-A-Lot in downstate Illinois. The camp is for children from disadvantaged homes and is free to the campers who are selected by the principals at their local schools. Bruce also works at the Des Plaines food kitchen for the homeless.
Bruce retired from the hot dog and catering business in 2004 and began working with Gordon Food Service in September 2005. Bruce’s drive to give back to community found a home in Gordon Food Service. GFS as a company feels strongly about being involved in the community. GFS supports the food kitchen in Des Plaines and funding several other organizations.
